Mount Read Boulevard, Town of Greece
The office is a second-floor suite on Mount Read Boulevard in the Town of Greece, on the northwest edge of the city, with Rochester as its mailing address. Most of the drives on this site begin from there, on Route 390 to the south or along the lake plain to the west.
Planning, asking and writing it down
The office listens to what a weekend should feel like, asks the campgrounds and inns at the right gorge the questions their websites skip, writes the options down with every charge counted, and passes your choice to the campground. During calling hours it handles changes for travelers already on the road.
It works with glamping resorts, campground resorts and country inns that run as lodging businesses, each with its own desk, its own rules and its own tax on lodging. Those campgrounds take your payment, confirm the stay and set their own cancellation terms. Each pays the office a commission on the stays it receives through us.
How the gorges were chosen and measured
The list began with gorges within a day's drive of Rochester that have campgrounds and inns close by, run as businesses. For each, we took a straight line across the stream and read ground heights every few dozen meters from the federal elevation survey, then put the eight in order of depth. The measurements and the drawings on every page come from that work.
Lodging is the whole service, and directions to the gate follow once the stay is confirmed; the camping trip planning questions cover the rest.
